Greetings,
Let me chime in with my experiences. If you already have a tower up,
retrofitting to a bottom rotor will be a major undertaking. Building up the
tower and mast at the same time is far easier than trying to thread masting
through an existing tower and radial bearings. Consider also your method of
joining mast sections. A solid splice will encourage splitting from ice. My
biggest complaint is the lack of footholds on a Rohn 25 sized tower. You WILL
have to climb the tower and with only the ability to get your toes over each
rung of the z-brazing, you will quickly tire. I'm not sure what's worse to
climb, an HDBX style tower or a Rohn 25 with a bottom mounted rotor.
