It's a basic materials problem... steel just won't be strong enough for the
span and sag (or else, copperweld would work), no matter what size you use.
You need something that is stronger than steel in terms of its weight, e.g.
synthetics, glass fiber, spider web, etc.
Also, get too small, and wind loads and aeolian vibrations are going to
raise havoc.
