Way back in the 60's and 70's an Elmer of mine (W8VWQ) told
me communications antennas at the very top of structures
would wipe out from noise during foul weather and to always
side mount antennas. He was right. Move the same antenna
lower, even though it's hit by the same moisture, and it is
significantly quieter in bad weather.

I agree 100%.  During rain my top stack is sometimes unusable, but the bottom 
one is very quiet. I have found this on 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters.  Another 
benefit of stacks!
