I dunno, but for the record, my Cushcraft R-8 is bolted to the chain link fence 
and it works great. Best DX is 4S7 I guess, from San Diego. 
I call it good, too.

  A few years ago I knew a fellow that did just that.  He bolted his Hy-Gain 
  14AVQ multi band vertical to the top of his chain link fence and called it 
  good.

  I often wondered how well that set up really worked.  Sounds too simple to 
  be very effective.
