When I was assembling HyGain antennas a few years ago, this excellent advice
was provided by KQ2M. I followed his advice and I have been very pleased. These
antennas are still up here, and they are SOLID!

RE: Re: [Towertalk] RE: HyGain 155CA and 105CA assembly problem

Jim,

I have 8 of these beasts on my 100' tower. You live in New England so
here's the deal....

YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST USE TWO STAINLESS STEEL HOSE CLAMPS ON
EACH SECTION and DOUBLE-NUT ALL SCREWS!!!!! (USE STAINLESS STEEL ONLY).
(All this is available pretty cheaply from Home Depot) Then make sure you
cut off the left over piece
of the hose clamp and then tape over it with tape. It is the only way to
ensure they will not snag on
the guy wires. If you do not do this, they WILL get caught on the guy wires
and your antenna
will break.

If you even have the slightest hesitation about doing all these things, then
you must chant the paragraph
in Bold letters repeatedly, repeatedly, repeatedly....

This is all you need to do, but this is what you MUST do for each antenna!

I would also suggest making a truss for each 15 meter beam and WEIGHT
BALANCE the antenna
with lead flashing (from Home Depot) AT THE BOOM TO MAST CLAMP!

These steps will double the assembly time for each antenna and add about $20
cost per antenna.
No suggestions will ever save you so much time and frustration if you build
them this way!

My antennas have survived MANY ice-storms and wet snow storms (we get more
ice and wet snow
than you - being farther South) and absolutely insane T-storms with
hurricane force winds. They would be
scrap metal if I had not done what I did. I suggest the same to you. BTW,
DON'T drill any holes in the
elements.

73 and let me know what you decide to do. GL! They are GREAT antennas!
