Tony,

I agree with what Jerry had to say. My HDX555 sits on a 5 ft X 5 ft base
and I crank from the side. My body stays pretty much inside the perimeter
of the cement base and I am 6'2" and 210. I just went out and measured my
installation which is 6 feet from my house and I tilt parallel to the house.
On my installation you would only have 22 inches to work with if you were
cranking from behind the winch and started with 3 ft of space.

This should not be a problem since I find the best mechanical advantage is
obtained from cranking at the side of the winch. This leads to another
point. It took only one cranking up of the tower by myself, Pete K4ZR, and
a neighbor before I replaced the Fulton winch with a 2500 lbs Fulton that
had a much better mechanical advantage. This cost me a $165. Of course I
was tilting the tower, a 21ft chromoly mast, a XM240 Cushcraft, and a TH7
already mounted. I can now crank it by myself without stopping. It was
like night and day.

Anyone need a brand new 1500 lb replacement winch?
Pat, K8PC
