In general, crimp connectors, with the right tooling, are just as good, if
not better, than soldered connectors.

The loss in 10 feet of almost any coax at HF is quite low. RG58 has 0.2 dB
loss in 10 feet at 28MHz RG-174 (that's the stuff that's about a tenth of
an inch in diameter) is 0.4 dB in 10 ft (at 28MHz). Super duper coax (like
LMR400 or 9913) might be 0.05 dB in that length.

Out of 100 W,
0.05 dB 1.15W lost
0.1 2.3 W
0.2 4.5 W
0.3 6.7W
0.4 8.8W

I don't know that I'd use RG174 at that power level (a watt per foot....
might get warm)

But... how many jumpers do you need? If the tooling costs hundreds of
dollars, you can buy a lot of $10-15 premade jumpers for that. CableXperts,
for instances, wants from $12 for a 1foot to $21 for a 10 ft jumper. I'm
sure you can find other places with lower prices. Radio Shack, for
instance, has both 8mini and -58 type jumpers.. a 10 ft 8M is $12.49

Also, how often are you connecting and disconnecting the cables. Every day?
Once or twice in the life of the station?

Another one from the "Old Fart" in Florida:
I am just completing the 'remodel' of the shack and I need to make up a few
co-ax jumpers.
I am running a max of 1ØØ watts and I wonder if it would be ok to use RG-58
with crimp connectors?
I would be willing to go out and buy the tool and necessary connectors just
so I don't have to solder so many PL-259's!
I have a common entry point for all the antennae and the longest jumper(s)
would be about 10-15 feet; the shortest 12 - 18 inches.
Any thoughts on crimp-on PL-259's????
