Boom length is quite a bit more than a "key" contributor. It is the
most critical factor in the design of any yagi.

This has been addressed so many times by so many highly experienced
antenna individuals, including W2PV and Kraus, that I fail to see why
it is not recognized as such.

This is not to say that an antenna cannot be designed without
consideration of this value, but such will be a compromise. You can
add elements to a boom of fixed length until the cows come home, and
your work will be useless.
