I couldn't agree more.
Just one example, which might make some of you northerners take note.
The ARRL Challenge Award, you would think is a fair measure of station
performance across all the HF bands.
Consider these facts:
The top score is 3089.
The highest score by a station in the Southern Hemisphere is 2287 (YV1DIG)
and that ranks him at number 201.
Then follows LU2NI at 2275 (rank 207), ZS6EZ at 2221 (rank 224), VK3QI
2058 (rank 292), VK9NS 2047 (rank 302) and PY2SP 2032 (rank 307).
In other words only 6 out of the first 307 stations are in the Southern
Hemisphere.
Even allowing for discrepencies in ham populations, clearly there is a
disadvantage to Southern Hemisphere stations, especially on 160mx and 6 mx,
which no "super antennas" etc. would fix..
The DXCC mixed, CW and phone are even more enlightening.
Cheers
Peter VK3QI
