Scotchbrite also works well on copper. Sam's sells a large bundle if you
have a lot of metal to clean.

Bad idea. The steel in the Brillo pads will have microscopic bits break off
and embed themselves in the aluminum, causing pre-mature corrosion due to
dissimilar metals.
Instead, use Scotchbrite on Aluminum. Save the steel wool (or steel
brushes) for working on galvanized tower sections....
