Tower Talkians, Out of curiosity, why RG-11 (which is solid dielectric and 1/2" in diameter) as opposed to, say, one of the new low-loss foam dielectric RG-6 types (which are smaller and lighther weight? I'd think you'll pay more for the RG-11 (unless it's some manky old surplus), just from the increased mass. There are "11 type" coaxes with foam dielectric, of course. Just paging through the Belden catalog... Belden 1523A is a 0.4 inch 75 ohm coax. 2.15 dB/100ft at 300 MHz. Compare to a "6 type" foamed dielectric which is around 3.4 dB/100ft at 300 MHz For comparison, Belden 8261 is an RG-11/U type with solid PE dielectric is about 2dB/100ft at 200 MHz and 4.2 dB/100ft at 400 MHz. The foam stuff runs around 2.5 dB/100ft at 400 MHz.
