More likely it is an erratic connection on the wiper of the pot, somewhere
between the rotor and the control box. check the quality of all
connections before you reach another conclusion.

tried. :) But no, it's actually in the tracking between the rotor and
the control box. The antenna ( F12 C31XR), therefore the rotor always is
pointing where it should be at the ends of the rotor's travel. Since the
rotor lived through a lightning strike back a few years ago I suppose it's
possible the pot in the rotor has become erratic or damaged.
