On this subject, ON4UN states on page 9-11 of Low Band Dxing (3rd),
"for a wire ON the ground, the physical length for 1/4 wave resonance will be approximately .14 wavelength". Can the shortening effect truly be this great? ********************************************************** My testing on sandy soils shows 45% to 60% shortening when on the ground - the better the soil the greater the shortening... You can do your own simple test... Hang a dipole - any length - chest high, measure the resonance point, drop it on the ground and find the resonance, pull it up in the air and measure...
