I have a Paladin solder sucker. It is far more effective than any other
method I have used, including the wicking braid. But, the easiest method
may be a heat gun. It works well for circuit boards that do not have SMT
components.

In addition, don't overlook a tool called the "Solder Sucker" - at least
that's the name of one the one I have.
It's basically a small squeeze bulb type device with a small plastic tip.
You heat the joint until the solder melts, collapse the bulb, apply the tip
to the joint and quickly release the bulb. It "sucks" the solder out of the
joint.
It's been helpful on several occasions when due to the through plating of a
circuit board "Solder Wick" couldn't quite get all of the solder. It is also
available at numerous electronics suppliers.
Just another option...

Les -
Are you familiar with solder wick? This is used to suck up any excess
solder from a solder point. If you have multiple points that need to be
unsoldered to release a component, this is the way to go. Solder wick is
available from electronic supply stores and Radio Shack.
