I'm sure some will disagree, but I would feel safe with a torch too, if
only it worked! Lacking a proper striker when I did my first one, I
attempted everything I could think of, including the torch. It just
wasn't hot enough to ignite the starter powder. It took a white hot
chunk from the igniter to get it to go. I had to get in the truck and
go to town to the welding supply and get a good striker that would
"throw" a chunk into the powder. It worked very well when I did that.
