I think this answers the question quite well. I should have thought to ask
the manufacturer, it does after all seem the sensible first step. Anyway I
now feel I know what I need to know and if we accept that rutheroff
transformers can also do the unbalanced to balanced job as well it should be
no problem. I still think an extra choking device on the feeder is not a bad
idea though.

After reading this email, and reading a couple of responses on the
reflector, I went "to the source". Here is the reply I received:
HELLO;
THE TRANSFORMER FOR THE 5 BAND 2 ELEMENT QUAD IS A TRANSFMISSION
LINE TRANSFORMER THAT IS TRI-FILER WOUND ON A FERRITE CORE, THEN POTTED WITH
POLYESTER RESIN. THE TRANSFORMER WILL TAKE 1500 WATTS SSB, 300 WATTS RTTY,
300 WATTS AM. THE 6 METER TRANSFORMER WILL TAKE 200 SSB. IF YOU RUN TO
MUCH POWER THROUGH THE TRANSFORMER IT WILL FLASH BETWEEN THE WINDINGS AND
CAUSE THE TRANSFORMER TO GO BAD. YOU WILL KNOW WHEN THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE
SWR ON ALL THE BANDS GOES UP TO 3 TO 1 SWR READINGS. IF YOU HAVE ANY
QUESTIONS OR NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION LET US KNOW.
SINCERELY,
MICHAEL DUDDY
