I did the 34XA to 36XA upgrade about a year after M2 came out with it. I
really believe that the new machined shorting bars make the upgrade
worthwhile, but I have one caution. I have built one new 34XA and rebuilt
one twice. In all cases the fit of the capacitor caps around the 3/8 inch
tubing were so snug fitting as to be a pain. The fit of the capacitor caps
around the new 3/8 inch tubing in my upgrade kit was almost loose, leading
to problems with water ingressing the tubes. M2 was kind enough to send a
replacement package of the capacitor caps, but the fit was the same. When I
suggested that the problem appeared to be the diameter of the new 3/8 inch
tubing being a skosh small I never heard anything further. The same caps
were very snug on the old 3/8 inch tubing.
I think my 36XA is typical in that it's great on 20, falls down some on 15
and is a killer on 10.
