Thanks to those who responded directly or on the reflector. Favorites
appear to include a bowline and half of a bow knot (like tying shoes). One
person referred me to Google, and while an awful lot that is on the
internet about knots is theoretical or decorative, there was a link to the
Army Field Manual on Rigging. See
