I have a Yaesu G1000dxa rotor. Contemplating a pole tower
in my suburban MD location. MA 550 or MA 770. For aesthetic
reasons, it may wind up house bracketed, which would necessitate
topside rotor mounting. I'm doing some planning, here, and would
like feedback from anyone who has actually USED a yaesu g1000 or
g800 in the pole-mounted configuration.
I have a 3 el steppIR yagi, and contemplate upgrading to a 4 el,
once the neighbors get used to the smaller one. My tower planning
needs to allow for that.
Yaesu's formula for pole-mount:
(ant windload)(height of mast above rotor)=< .45
They recommend keeping loading to 60% of max, for headroom.
3 el SteppIR:
(.6m^2 ant) (.3m mast) = .18 .18/.45 = .4 i.e. 40% of max.
4 el SteppIR:
( .9m2) (.3m) = .27 .27/.45 = .6 i.e. 60% of max.
SO....the larger antenna just meets the mfr's recommendation.
And the question, for those with direct experience:
Would YOU do this? If not, why not? Any other thoughts?
