Thanks to all who have responded to my query. .

To answer the question, "what are you trying to accomplish" --

I have some pre-existing junctions and connections (patch cords) that if I were to re-do would use conventional heatshrink.

In lieu of re-building these cables, I was hoping to find a tape or material that I could wrap around the connection and then melt/shrink to both provide insulation, protection and rigidity at that junction point. I suppose I'm left with Liquid Electrical Tape.

Generically, heat shrink is irradiated polyolefin, so searching for that may
be more productive.

There's some really burly stuff used for fixing pipelines called Canusa
Wrapid - they show something like a roofing torch/weed burner being used to
shrink it on a 12" diameter pipe...

There's also some nifty stuff that you can wrap around a connection, then
put conventional heat shrink tubing over it. The heat to shrink the tubing
melts the other wrap, making a waterproof seal, but one that can be xacto
knifed off, because it doesn't stick to things. I can't remember what it's
called though..
