Love my VA1...it's one of the handiest pieces of gear in the shack. Use it for
all
manner of antenna adjustments, as well as a quick and dirty signal generator.
Battery life is very good, and it's small enough to fit in a sweatshirt pocket
out in the yard.
Yes, the tuning can be a little touchy, but that's what the "fine tuning " knob
is for.
