Not sure quite what size of CATV hardline is being discussed here, but for 
the common .75 inch, a 1/2" water pipe to 1/2" copper tubing adapter works 
great.  The big end self-taps onto the hardline jacket just fine (with a 
little Noalox for lube and conductivity) and you can easily silver-solder 
an Amphenol barrel connector into the small end, then reinstall the innards 
(first spread the inner conductor and solder to the center connector of the 
hardline).  Thanks W4AN et al, 5+ years ago.
