Hi,
Is there any galvanic action to worry about when using galvanized
u-bolts with an aluminum boom?
I know stainless can touch aluminum directly but Dick's note made me
wonder about galvanized steel and aluminum being in contact (have a
couple here and wonder if I should replace them with stainless)...
Thanks,
George / KF9YR

Subject: [TowerTalk] stainless u-bolts -- update
Thanks to all who responded on this. A lot of searching on the web leads
me
to conclude that stainless u-bolt sizes do not come in 1/8" width
increments, only 1/4" increments. However, I have found some zinc-plated
u-bolts that do come in 1/8" increments. This makes sense because
Cushcraft
originally supplied plated u-bolts for the 40-2CD. For reasons I won't
go
into, plated bolts would be OK in this case (not to mention a lot
cheaper.)
Unfortunately, my web search has not turned up a supplier who has the
exact
sizes I need. I'll keep looking, but if anyone can point me in the right
direction, here are the specs:
Inside Width Length Thread
2 1/2" 3 1/2" 3/8"
2 1/8" 2 3/4" 5/16"
2" 2 3/4" 5/16"
1 5/8" 2 3/4" 5/16"
The lengths are not critical -- a few eighths one way or the other won't
be
a problem.
