I think I know the answer to this question before I answer it.
My KLM 40 meter beam has decide to run a very high SWR. Since the antenna is
located at 200 feet I had to go up and use my MFJ at the coax sub leading
from the antenna. At that point the SWR was around 4:1 across the whole band
and got higher out of the band. The balun of course is a 4:1 balun, but
inaccessable for testing unless I drop the beam a little and wrestle it
around...not a pleaant chore since it since it is kinda large and heavy.
I've done this once before.
>From the above SWR reading, does it look like a bad balun? I checked all
mechanical connections the best I could visually and saw nothing amiss.
By the way I took a pretty good lightning hit over the summer. I have used
the antenna since then, but could it have had the effect of 'weakening' the
balun?
