Bruce,
While living in the Cayman Islands from 1986-1990, I had a 6 element
Wilson tribander on a 55 foot crank up, unguyed, tubular style tower. I
have always pinned the mast thru the rotator using a stainless steel
bolt. The rotator was (is) a T2X. That tower/antenna installation
successfully went thru hurricane Gilbert, the most powerful hurricane in
the northern hemisphere to date. As usual, after that incident, I have
been told not to pin the mast to the rotator. To this day, I still pin
all my masts at the rotator.
