We have an A3WS with the 30m add-on at W5RRR. It works great.
The add-on is simply that: it adds element segments and traps to the driven
element. It is a dipole at 30m.
We bought the add-on kit when we bought the antenna, so it was a single
assembly process. No problems were encountered. We followed the dimensions
in the manual and it all worked just fine.
Yes. I would say it is a 'set and forget' type. We've only had to do
maintenance on our A3S mounted (of course) above the A3WS.
