What does "it does not stretch" actually
mean? I bought some dacron covered
polyester rope advertised as not stretching,
and it most definitely stretches.
I can easily stretch it several percent
by putting 50 lbs of tension on it.
In fact, it was considerably worse than
some 2 cents a foot junk poly rope I tried.
I think what vendors mean by "stretching"
is elongating with time while under tension.
What I mean by stretching is elongating
as soon as tension is applied (ie Hooke's law).
What I am looking for in a rope is something
that behaves like wire rope, with a very high
Hooke's coefficient.

Another question:

Does anyone know if Kevlar is any better
in terms of "critters" chewing through it
than ordinary rope? Can you cut the Kevlar
easily with scissors?
