Ted, that "consensus" is high at HF by a factor of at least 10. If it were
correct, such a connection would run noticeably warm at a KW input, and it
doesn't.
I tested my HF feedline the other day with an MFJ 259B, in a setup that
consisted of the following, in order from the 259B out: pl259, short coax,
pl259, bulkhead connector, pl259, length of coax, pl259, barrel, hardline,
barrel, pl259, length of coax, pl259. The loss was essentially
indistinguishable from the published loss figures for the feedline(s)
alone, when it "should have been" 1.8 dB higher.
