I'm in the process of redesigning my remote hf station using a Kachina
505dsp.
I'm converting from an ISDN phone line to a pair of spread spectrum
900mhz wireless modems. I would like to mount the modem on the tower
close to the antenna to reduce loss's in the system due to the coax.
Per the modem manual I can get away with 4.2db. In order to have the
antenna at 60 feet I'll have over 125' in coax cable which will get me
over the 4.2db number quickly when using 9913. While coax exists to do
the job, I'd rather not get into the expense. So if I install the modem
at the base of the tower I'll only have a 60' run.
Is there anyway to isolate the modem from the tower so it won't be in
the path of a lightning hit. This is real important as these modems are
awful pricey and I really don't want to replace one.
