jerry: I'm sure you will find it quieter. CQ had an article about a
horizontal quad loop fed with balanced 100 ohm coax into a tuner. That
indeed is a quiet antenna for noise--not signal.
One theory is the voltage at the peaks is less in a loop than at the end of
dipole. This is supposedly less receptive to noise. Multiwire cage
construction wiill lower the voltage peaks even more. To test this theory
I'm going to make a bow tie dipole and compare it to a regular dipole and
quad loop. I already use 2 wire quad loops but have not compared it to a
single wire loop as yet.
I'm also going to experiment side by side with bare and insulated wire during
dust, rain and snow storms for dipoles and quad loops. Has anyone done this?
