I don't know how anyone can tell for sure anyway.

I DON'T have any specialized lightning gaps or arrestors, I only use
grounding that is properly installed and a pair of MOV's on the
power line. What I do is similar to what BC stations have done for
many years when they had little (if any) trouble in storms.

RCS-8V's are in all feedlines someplace in the system, and they
do isolate the center conductors of feeders (which is actually better
than anything else other than disconnecting the cables can do).

While I think it is a good idea to disconnect stuff, I don't and can't
disconnect control lines or antenna cables because there are far
too many cables.

Without any specialized protection other than a proper installation
for grounding normal bypass caps and some diode clamps on
sensitive control lines, I go through storm after storm without
equipment damage. This includes direct hits on my 300 foot tower.

On occasion I do have a Beverage transformer and I have even had
a Beverage antenna wire vaporize, but generally it is just one
antenna out of dozens.

99% of protection is in proper lead routing and grounding.
