Those of you interested in a bit of history might try and find the MIT
Radiation Lab book titled Transmission Lines, Antennas and Wave
Guides.

This book summarized the type of work done there during the 1940's.

It is very interesting (though there are a lot of equations) to just
look over the types of problems they solved back using theory and
without the benefit of computers.

Here is a listing of the Chapter Titles

Transmission Lines
1. Nonresonant Lines
2. Transmission Line Constants
3. Dissipationless Transmission Lines
4. Impedance Matching
5. Impedance Matching by means of stubs
6. Circle Diagram ("Smith" chart precursor)
7. General Transmission line Equations (SWR here)

Antennas
1. Qualitative Introduction to Electromagnetic Theory
2. The Driven Antenna as a Circuit Element
3. Coupled Antennas and Transmission Lines
4. The Receiving Antenna as a Circuit Element
5. Electromagnetic Field of Antennas and Arrays
6. Closed circuit antennas (loops et al)

UHF circuits

Wave Propogation
1. Wave Propogation vs Freq
2. Modification of Wave Propogation by the Lower Atmosphere
3. Sky Waves from the Ionosphere
4. Abnormalities and Interruptions of Wave Propogation

This last chapter has an "S-meter" plot of signals from experimental
station
W6XKG (Los Angeles) of signal strength on 25950Kc from Md and MUF
plots.
