The G5RV is a 100' dipole with with a balanced transmission line matching
section that results in a moderate SWR on most HF bands that is within the
capture range of most automatic antenna tuners. At a typical height above
ground of 45', the peak radiation is near vertical on 80 and 40 meters and
the pattern at medium angles is near omni directional on 80 meters and oval
on 40 meters. The G5RV is a simple and inexpensive compliment for a
tribander to cover the low bands. A 200' G5RV "senior" will enable local
coverage of 160 meters.
