Hi Josh -
By all means, go for it! You_will_ have fun, and even more, the
satisfaction of using something that you created. As you may know, a
ground-mounted (quarter wave) vertical is only half of the antenna. For
20M, you can easily put in a good ground plane, so do not skimp on that.
