g'day to the towertalk gang
i need advice on a suitable base insulator for a self-supporting 50ft
telescoping aluminium mast
base diameter is 2 inches. i have in mind a cylindrical solid insulator a
metre long inserted
inside the 2 inch tube with aluminium tube connected either side with a 1
inch gap, each tube connected to insulator with 6 inch longtitudinal slots
and 2 hose clamps.
i had in mind 2 inch diameter hardwood dowel, dried and varnished (receiving
only), but
dowel is only available here in softwood.
even if available would this do the job? i expect the tensile forces at the
joint would be very high.. are there alternative high tensile insulating
materials available in cylindrical solids?
is there another approach? i don't really want to shunt feed.
