I would NOT use steel wool. What I have used successfully to clean the
equivalent of a TELREX 20M646 and many other antennas and aluminum parts
is pads of the SCOTCH green cleaning pads (6 x 9.5 inches). I buy big
package (12ea) of them at a COSTCO store but have seen them in HOME BASE
and other such stores. I do the cleaning using water, very important,
and a bit of elbow grease and a nice clean finish is the result. With a
lot of pitting extra elbow grease is required. OH, the finish is not
like a mirror so not as reflective as "new" aluminum.
