Can anyone state what the true duty /function is for metalized
mylar wrapping (static prevention/avoidance/grounding) ?
Seems obvious, right !
My first instinct was that it was just aluminised
coating which provided some sort of grounding.
But I had occasion to measure the surface resistance
just a weird impulse,which would be questioned in most places,
and found it appeared to be an electrical load
(high resistance)
So first thoughts went out the window
and I then looked at it as an electrical load to defuse
static build up.
( We can now bag the ends of all antenna elements
to stop corona......nah )
Does anybody have first hand knoweledge of the
mechanics of such wrapping before I start an old wives tale.?
In the past I was the only one on the band who had the balls to put
(alum wrapped ping pong balls) at the end of all my elements
(novice time) but I could not realise any positive advantage.
