Hello all,
We started today about 10:30 at the 25' level with one set of permanent guys
already in place. We added 4 straight sections and then the top to bring it
to ~75'. We finished (were on the ground at about 2:30) with putting the
sections on and then came down and tensioned the guys to the proper amount
and plumbed the top part of the tower. I had to take a break after the first
3 sections as my legs were tired or I think we could have finsihed quicker.
But everyone is safe and no mishaps so it was worth taking the break.
I want to thank the people that helped me and all the people on the
reflector. Ed K5OF did the lions share of the work with me on the tower
today, ground crew consisted of my Dad W4AD, my brother Bill W4RM, Cliff
W4CE, Bob K8MLM and a non Ham Craig who has helped me in numerous ways
(helping build my deck so I could get to the tower project, cutting down
trees to clear the area for the tower and a lot of other things). He was
quite intrigued by the whole process and helped a lot today. I also want to
mention W4DC Denis and KU3M Rick who helped in earlier stages of the project.
The tower looks great. At the 75' level you are still looking into trees
for about the next 10' but the mast will take the C3E to 86' and the 40-2CD
will sit at 76'. Thanks everyone for your help and I'll have the antennas up
in another 3 weeks or so. Lastly, thanks to Steve K7LXC for getting the
tower block and guy wire tensioner to me in time for this weekend. Hope to
be on the air soon. Thanks and 73, Jack W4NF
