I've had several requests for the answers I received to my "shimming
question", so here's the gist of it:
> Hi John,
> Would you kindly let me know what the answer was.
Sorry, this was one of those things that I thought *I* was the only one
that didn't know, and didn't feel the answers were worth posting to the
reflector.
At first, I think I just didn't fully understand the goal of shimming.
Now that I do, it's obvious!
My answers mostly just said that it isn't necessary to "wrap" shim stock
around the mast, since it only really makes a difference on the rotor
body side of the mast where it shims the mast out toward center. If you
wrap shim around the rotor, the shim on the bracket side isn't doing
anything. Thus, everyone said just to cut sheets of shim and put them
on the one side between the mast and rotor body. For the T2X that side
sort of has a "V" configuration if viewed from the top.
I need 0.071" of shim. It turns out that I already have some stainless
steel sheets that are 0.024" thick. So I will cut 3 pieces of this to
make 0.072" and place these between the mast and the rotator body, then
drill my holes through the rotor brackets, shim, and mast at the same
time.
Hope this helps - any further questions welcome! 73
