Hi Lane,
I use thin black nylon rope or very thick nylon twine. I find there isn't a
whole lot of difference between it and special rope I pay bigger bucks for.
The stuff I use doesn't stretch too bad, even on long runs.
You don't need (or want) a very thick rope, 1/8 inch or so would do fine.
I get my "light rope" from Walmart's sporting department. I think they sell
it to repair outdoor nets, it's by the boating and recreational stuff...not
with the other rope..
The stuff I use is a tarred nylon, and comes in a variety of sizes. The
roll laying here on my desk is #60, 300 feet long. Tensile strength is 500
lbs. Made by Wellington rope in Madison GA.
I have various sizes of it in use, from 1/8 inch to very small stuff. My
catinary (sp?) lines are made from it. I have a few pieces in use for at
least six years outside, and even use it for spans several hundred feet
long.
