Well, today it was time to take down the old Mosley, and
get ready to complete the C4 assembly.
The 8 year old US Tower MA-550 now shows an astonishing amount
of rust; where? On the flat surfaces, around the clamp of the rotating
fixture. Layers of metal seemed to be peeling off!! When, at last, the
bolts were banged free of the rust holding them fast, it was just
astonishing to see the metal crud fall away in flat layered flakes!
The result. will have to do much metal clean up and determine how
to stop the cancer of rust about the area. Nowhere else on the set
up does this seem to be occurring, just the flat areas.
Anyway, also have decided not to tilt the tower, but just go ahead and
assemble the complete C4 up on the roof, then lift it up to the 23 foot
or so level of the cranked down 550. Remove the TA-34, and install
the assembled C4.
However, we are promised a couple of days of steady rain, so will
probably not get much more done until the weekend.
