Having used 1/4w slopers in the Canal Zone and 1/4w + 1/2w slopers in
Charlotte, I offer the following tips for improvements. Quarter-wave
slopers operated better at 1/4 heights rather than higher at past
installations.
1. Run a ground wire from sloper connection point to mast above tower.
Connect via s.s. hose clamp. Allow 2-3- feet for rotation as your coax &
rotor loops.
2. If high SWR persists, run an RF ground wire from above sloper point to
ground rod as tower base.
3. Place 2-4 1/4 w radials in same direction as sloper. Using this under
KO1F's 1/2 wave diagram years ago really helped three one-half wave
slopers perform on 80 meters.
Remember the beam & tower make up half of a sloper system and affect it's
performance. Good luck/have fun, from a 4-Square station.

Jim Miller, K4SQR
