Well when I started working on the KT34XA late last June I did not
anticipate so many problems.
Trees in the way...boy do trees grow. The guy wanted $$$$ to cut down and
remove and the XYL nixed the plan. So bow and arrow over several branches
of two trees and then put the heavy burlap rope up and break them off.
Then I find that in the first director the fiberglass spacers are eaten thru
with pollution.
Now as I try to recap and replace the fiberglass the 3/8" by 72" piece of
aluminum breaks. At the point of the break the aluminum is all white (the
inside is filled with the white material at this point ). Appears the
aluminum just got brittle and broke! I sent a FAX to KLM to order a new
piece BUT I am again dead in the water. And I still have the two driven
elements to re-cap...wonder what else I will run into. Guess I won't be
able to finish on Sat and try out in the CQ WW after all.
Anyone got any ideas on the aluminum becoming brittle and breaking? The
section was inside the larger piece of aluminum that is part of the cap
decoupling stub (inside cap). Water? Holes are down correctly and there
was no water there when I took it down.
