Many times getting a piece of equipment in to do something is cost
effective. Part of the equation is whether you've got volunteers or whether
you're paying professionals. You need one guy on the tower and at least 2 guys
on the ground. What takes the time is pulling the guy wires out and attaching
them. That's time when the crane is sitting there and you're paying for it.
With one guy on the tower and 2-3 on the ground, you can manually put up
70-100 feet a day of Rohn tower with a ginpole. You can probably do it in half
the time with a crane.
It's hard to get volunteers to show up for all the work you've got
planned so you might want to bite the bullet and get a couple of quotes from
some professional riggers. The advantage there is that they are in and out and
done in a fraction of the time that rounding up volunteers would take. And
they have the equipment to do it right. BTW, your insurance company is
expecting to have the job done by professionals so why don't you get their
input?
