Sometimes common sense and a cool andrational approach works too.
Over a decade ago I lived in an area of northern NJ which had no really
restrictive controls at all (well, you needed building permit and safety
inspections,
but they were for making $ and valid safety considerations resepctively).
To make a short story long, some homeowners wanted to start an association.
At the first meeting, it appaeared that the primary purpose was Lawn Police
and petty medling. Although I didn't have a tower (and still don't), I was
concerned
where things might go. Although I try to maintain a low profile, I decided I
had to
get involved, so I got up and said something to the effect of, "well, you can
start
this organization and gig me for my grass being a quarter of an inch too long,
but
then I'm going to call the police the minute after the 10PM noise laws [county
ordinance] on Saturday night go into effect and your teenagers are still
playing
their music at their party too loud. If you poke your nose where it doesn't
belong,
don't be surprised if someone tries to cut it off." Anyway, the prime mover
behind
this initiative had second thoughts and the whole thing died stillborn.
Now, could we get back to towers and associated stuff?

Boy is this ever true. Ask fellow towertalker W5BA in Houston. He has
tried for two years to put up his tower and beams. There are no zonings or
even subdivision restrictions against but the architectural committee has
stopped him as they dont believe a tower fits in or some such nonsense.
A subdivision near me tried to re-instate their CC&R's and were going to ask
all hams to take down their towers....this was stopped by cooler heads
and the CC&R's now leave out coverage for towers, TV, and satellite antennas.
Attorney and famed contester K4BAI say CC&R's run out after 20 years. If
this is true this will open up many subdivisions to us again!
