Hello Kurt,
And, where does any lightning energy go with metal drain pipes, with the
metal in your fillings in ur teeth, in your belt buckle hanging in the
closet, the metal loops on female's bras, etc. etc. etc.
The answer is, some local metal objects may be mildly charged during a
strike, but it is the metal that is CONDUCTING the charge that gets the
heat.  In my experience, allowing coax to float means that these wires do
not do the primary conducting and thus are most of the time saved.
