The problem with plastic coated wire (less so for house wire and all solid
wires, but still....) is that water gets under the coating, especially at
the ends, and starts rust.
This is especially true for stranded wire because the strands "wick" up
water inside the plastic coating and then the water just sits there and
ruins the wire. Best/worst example is stranded clothes line wire
sometimes used for light guy wire or boom back-stays, where the plastic
covers the wire to protect the clothes. The wire goes south vy soon.
