I'd like to tap the metal knowledge of the group to locate some
satisfactory 1/4 and 3/16 rod material for some portable 10-meter antennas
in the works. I have tried the material (T6061) normally available, and
it appears to be too soft (droopy) and bendable for the task of using a
4.5' piece of 1/4" linked to a 3/16 iece to finish element about 8.3' each
side of center.
I had some material of these sizes that I used for a portable dipole of
the same diameter, but gave away the antenna to an elderly ham who could
no longer maintain his tower after I had used it for several years. I am
uncertain of the materials, but the pieces seemed to be the ground plane
rods for an old CB antenna. I received the pieces 3rd hand from an
estate. They were abut 4.5' each, and I cut the thinner rod down to
resonance on 10. The link (screw-thread) was already in place.
The appearance was dull, but weathered without rust or stain, and with
only a very modest droop. Any assistance in probably identification and
locating similar stock will be much appreciated. Need 6 4.5' (or
thereabouts) pieces of each size for the project.
Many thanks in advance.
