I have seen severe damage to telephone/data cable in conduits(Large size)
by mice. They seem to like to chew the insulation completely off of 4 pair
cable and sometimes even chew the copper as well. Many years ago someone
told me the newer cable had some sort of treatment that made it less
palatable to the mice but I have since seen the problem on newer cable as
well.
I think there must be some kind of treatment that could keep the damage
down. Not sure if re-cycled beer would be it though. Guess it could be
fun trying. :-)
The damage I have seen has been mostly in grocery stores which must be a
paradise for rodents in terms of unlimited food supply.
