Messy how? You want to use a thin penetrating oil that will wick into the
cable strands. NOT something that will coat the outside of the cable and
attract dirt and particles. The Lubriplate I've used is a thick grease - NOT a
recommended cable lubricant. What is the stuff you mentioned, eh?
